As a mother, I am very interested in exploring educational approaches that help children develop comprehensive skills and abilities, and I am increasingly discovering initiatives that inspire me to believe that many things can be done differently, that there is much to discover, that there are other ways to educate and transmit values...
One of these initiatives is LÓVA, OPERA AS A LEARNING VEHICLE (LA ÓPERA, UN VEHÍCULO DE APRENDIZAJE)... This initiative, promoted by the Teatro Real, has allowed and is allowing many schools to start working on projects... Thus, it's about the children themselves creating an opera... Each child is assigned a role: performer, scriptwriter, makeup artist, lighting technician, etc... and that child, guided by an expert, must perform their role autonomously and with the responsibility of knowing that the success of the joint project largely depends on their work...
The ultimate goal is not so much to create the opera itself, though that too, but everything the children learn and discover during the process: how to work in a team, how to negotiate with their peers, how to develop skills in a certain "trade" to the point where they know more than their teachers in that area, how to manage themselves and make the necessary arrangements to achieve their work, how to develop their creative abilities, etc... In short, "they develop capacities and skills that will serve them for life"... In addition, this initiative improves their linguistic development, their "self-awareness" and increases their self-confidence and self-esteem by seeing that they are truly capable of carrying out this work... and above all, it's not something they've been told about, but an experience they've lived and therefore they won't forget it! I'll leave you with an interview with a primary school teacher who participated in the project and who explains the experience very well and all the learning it meant for the students and for the teachers themselves. The truth is it gives much to think about... And I'll conclude with a reflection: it's true that it's difficult to change schools and have more initiatives like this... and as this teacher rightly says, nowadays the curricula are very extensive and leave little time to dedicate to this type of project... I wish things would change over time! Because from my point of view, there is no better way to transmit values and develop their capacities and skills than through experience... but in the meantime, let's not forget that education begins at home... My proposal and my reflection are addressed to parents... if not as much is done at school as we would like, why not try to work this way from home?
We will have some limitations but certainly also other advantages...
I leave it to you... What do you think?
