In my work, I have often had to give awareness talks about entrepreneurship in schools and institutes. The goal is to reflect on the qualities, attitudes, and aptitudes of an entrepreneur, demystify the business world, and make young people consider the possibility of creating their own business and developing their own project as a real future option.
On many occasions, I show them the video of the story of the FC Panyee children in Thailand. It is a beautiful story of overcoming challenges that can help us explain to our children that if they truly desire something and fight for it, "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE."
I want to highlight some of the entrepreneurial qualities and aptitudes that the children in this story possess. From my point of view, the most important thing is to convey to our children that all of these can be developed throughout life, with practice and training.
- Passion, enthusiasm: I believe this is the main thing, to be passionate about what you do, to find a project that fulfills you. That passion will take you very far. These children clearly had a very strong passion for football.
- Spirit of overcoming: that passion led them to overcome many difficulties to be able to play what they loved most, building a football pitch on the sea, as they had no space on their tiny island.
- Perseverance: in life, you will always encounter many difficulties. The most important thing is to have tenacity and persistence to continue and pursue your goals, no matter what and regardless of who. In the video, we see how at first the islanders laughed at the children and called them crazy. Despite everything, they continued to achieve their goal. Believing in yourself, in your possibilities, in your ability to carry the project forward is very important.
- Ability to take risks: starting a new project always involves risk, as your hopes, your expectations, often your time, or even your money are at stake. The ability to cope with the initial uncertainties, the ability to accept mistakes, failures, is very important so as not to give up at the first hurdle. The Panyee children demonstrated these aptitudes.
- Creativity: doing things differently, adding value. In the case of the Panyee children, even though there was no apparent option to build a football pitch on their island, they came up with and managed to build it on the sea. No one would have bet on this possibility or believed that children could do it... but creativity combined with passion and perseverance HAS NO LIMITS!
- Organizational and planning skills: to carry out a project, we will often need to form a team and organize it. Thus, coordination skills and social skills are very important to achieve the stated objectives. If you notice in the video, there is a first child who encourages and organizes the rest, he would be the leader, capable of launching the project.
What other values, skills, attitudes, etc., do you find in these children? How do you think we can work on them with our children?
