3 games to develop children's imagination

by admin on Feb 21, 2014
Fomentar la imaginación

Now that the weekend is here and we have more time to enjoy with our children, I want to suggest three games that, in addition to helping you share magical moments with them, will help develop their imagination.

  • LET'S INVENT A STORY!
  1. We will tell the child 3 very disparate elements that come to mind, for example: suitcase, giraffe and ring, and we will have to build a story with these three elements. We will start by telling a part, and the child must incorporate the other two elements by inventing the continuation of the story.
  2. We will not limit imagination, meaning the story does not have to be coherent or make sense... It can be the most outlandish in the world, because the point is precisely to let imagination soar...
  3. Depending on the child's age, we can give them some ideas to help them, but we should try to let them surprise us with their story on their own.
  • IMAGINARY SITUATION:
  1. We will present the child with an imaginary situation that is a bit outlandish... whatever comes to mind: imagine you could fly or imagine you were invisible or had 6 arms, etc.
  2. We will ask them to close their eyes and visualize it for a minute...
Now we will ask them a series of questions: what things would you think of doing, how would you feel, what impact would that situation have on others, what advantages would you have and what disadvantages, etc, etc...
  3. You can incorporate all the questions that come to mind; the goal is to chat with our child for a good while, having fun while helping to develop their imagination...
  • SHALL WE PLAY DRESS-UP?
  1. Always keep a "junk drawer" at home with things for them to dress up in: scarves, old glasses you no longer use, old ties, old swimsuits, ribbons, costume necklaces, robes, and anything else you can think of... you can't imagine how much fun it will provide...
  2. It doesn't have to be carnival; any day can be good to open the drawer for them and simply... let them start dressing up with the different "gadgets" or "rags" they find...
  3. Only one rule: let them enjoy... and do not intervene in their play unless necessary (to help them put on a garment, for example, etc...).

Surprising your little one with variations of traditional games will increase their enthusiasm and attention level and create an optimal environment for learning.

Furthermore, sharing these kinds of moments with them, where fun and laughter are guaranteed, will strengthen the emotional bonds between parents and children.

I hope you liked them and that you take the opportunity to put them into practice this weekend.
